Week 19, October 3, newsletter Sugar snap peas this week! They are SO tasty! This Saturday’s Food Preservation Workshop Series is “Canning.” Our newsletter has photos of progress on enclosing the small greenhouse and gives details of how we are improving the soil through a combination of strategies.
Week 20, October 10, newsletter The bounty doesn’t end! Your bags were extra full this week with produce from Health Hero Island Farm. And those of you with Omnivore and year-round shares got some extra special items – maple syrup, apple butter, gluten-free granola! This is a great week! Health Hero Island Farm is participating in Folsom School’s Grades 7/8 fundraiser “Infinite Pastabilities” on October 12 with donated produce, herbs and flowers. This Saturday’s Food Preservation Workshop Series is on “Freezing the Harvest”, and the newsletter has photos from last week’s canning workshop. This weekend’s excitement is our participation in “Islands’ Harvest Days.” On Sunday, October 13th, we will take you on a tour of the farm from greenhouse to gardens, through the cattle handling system and full circle through our historic barn. We will share some of our history with you, offer some information about the kind of farming we’re doing, and enjoy a garden tasting. We hope you’ll join us and share this opportunity with others!
Week 21, October 17, newsletter For some of you, this is your last CSA week of the season. We want to thank you from the bottom of our soil…;-)… for being the first members of our new CSA at our new farm! It was so fulfilling to us to provide food for your families this season! Our four-part workshop series was a success! Hannah loved leading the workshops and also learning from the participants. She will continue to hold workshops at the farm, so keep an eye out for announcements in your inbox! This week we hosted Vermont Housing and Conservation Board’s staff and board for a lunch and pasture walk and talk at Health Hero Island Farm. Their visit with us was the kick-off for their retreat where one main focus was on agriculture and water quality. Eric shared some of his innovative grazing and soil-building techniques, all leading to less runoff and cleaner water. To learn more, please visit Eric’s YouTube Channel.
